A formal dining room on the thirty-second floor, arranged so every chair faces the skyline. A veined marble floor runs uninterrupted beneath a table for eight.
A veined marble floor runs uninterrupted beneath a table for eight, and every chair is turned to face the view. Nothing in the room is taller than the window sill.
Illuminated display cabinets and a sculptural chandelier add warmth after dark, when the glass turns into a mirror. The joinery is finished in a soft bronze lacquer that picks up the colour of the city lights.

01
The brief
The idea behind the space.
The view was the reason the client bought the apartment, so the room was planned to serve it. Furniture stays low, the window wall is left bare, and the strongest pieces sit at the back of the room.
02
Design and build
How it was made.
The marble floor was laid in large slabs with the joints aligned to the table. Illuminated display cabinets and a sculptural chandelier were hung from a reinforced ceiling installed for the purpose.

03
The result
The finished space.
By day the room is bright and almost plain. After dark the cabinets and chandelier add warmth, and the city becomes the fourth wall.
04
Impact
The client now hosts dinner most weekends, and the room has been photographed for two regional design titles.
