Style
Dark and quiet
A main bedroom designed for deep rest. Charcoal panelling and a recessed ceiling absorb the light, and a single halo fixture above the bed gives the room one quiet focal point.
Charcoal wall panelling and a recessed ceiling tray absorb light instead of reflecting it. A single halo fitting above the bed is the only thing in the room that asks to be looked at.
Upholstery is kept to three soft greys, with brass pendants in place of bedside lamps so the tables stay clear. A fitted wardrobe wall closes without handles, and blackout blinds sit hidden in the ceiling recess.

01
The brief
The idea behind the space.
The client sleeps badly in bright rooms, so we started from darkness and added light only where it was needed. Every surface is matt, every fitting is dimmable, and nothing in the room glows on standby.
02
Design and build
How it was made.
The panelling hides a full wall of wardrobes, a dressing table and the door to the bathroom. Sockets, switches and blinds were set out on paper first so that no cable is visible from the bed.

03
The result
The finished space.
The suite is dark by intent and never heavy. Soft grey upholstery and brass pendants catch what light there is, and the room feels larger at night than it does by day.
04
Impact
The client reports sleeping through the night for the first time in years, and has since asked us to carry the same palette into the study next door.
